Kingshill has long had a deserved reputation for innovative and varied teaching methods. Part of the strength of the education it provides is due to the strong tradition of teachers sharing good practice and methods. In line with our school policies, all pupils are treated equally and no pupil is treated less favourably than other pupils.
Any pupil who studies at Kingshill can expect to experience a wide variety of lessons. Great value is placed on assisting pupils to become independent learners making use of the Library/Resource Area, Information Technology and other resources available to them.
· Opportunities are provided for pupils to engage in scientific and technological experiments and to learn Language, Mathematics, and other ‘core’ skills by practical means;
· self discipline is encouraged through the practice of regular homework and encouragement to ‘find out for oneself’;
· confidence is developed in a variety of situations, whether by taking part in individual or group presentations, practical or theoretical work, oral or written tasks;
· skills are promoted in the disciplines they will need for life - linguistic, mathematical, scientific, creative and practical.
Lessons are well resourced with materials produced by teams of teachers combined with the very best textbooks available. Teachers are encouraged to choose the most effective means of encouraging learning, blending the best of ‘traditional’ and ‘progressive’ methods.
As you walk through classrooms on a typical day, you will see pupils engaged in silent reading, group discussion, scientific experiments, oral presentations, research in the Library, practical work in Technology, drama improvisation and a host of other activities.
We believe that a day at Kingshill should be varied, demanding and enjoyable.
