Years 10 & 11 GCSE art

We have chosen to use the AQA Examination Board unendorsed course for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in Art and Design.

The course is divided into two parts;

  • Coursework which carries 60% of the marks
  • Examination which carries 40% of the marks

    There are two coursework units in Year 10;

  • Natural Forms - Sept to Feb
  • Still Life - Feb to July

    There is one coursework unit in Year 11

  • Portraiture - Sept to March
    and the examination - April to the end of term

    Click below to see a full outline of the Year 10 and 11 course

  • Pupils are required to keep a sketchbook to record their investigation and experimental work and each unit will result in an outcome with back-up work.

    The school will recieve a list of titles or briefs for the examination at the end of March or beginning of April and pupils are required to choose one and provide back-up work and one final piece. Ten hours are allowed for the production of the final piece under examination conditions but back-up work can be taken into the exam.
