All pupils study Design and Technology for one double lesson per week in Year 7 on a nine week rotation. In Year 8 pupils study two aspects of DT for six months each and the same in Year 9.
Projects are centered around experimenting with tools, materials and processes through both focussed practical tasks and design and make tasks.
Aspects of the Year 7 course include healthy eating and health and safety and the design and make task is a batch of buscuits which are sold to raise money for charity.
Other units include focussed practical tasks looking at the main food groups; fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products and cereals.
In Year 9 pupils carry out a design and make task producing celebration cakes and are taught control systems in the food industry.
The Year 10 and 11 scheme is a full GCSE course where pupils follow the design process culminating in a design and make project which is realised in the form of a design folder and final product.
