RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

The course will consist of a range of focussed practical tasks at the beginning of Year 10.  These will involve developing design skills, modelling and evaluating skills.  A lot of emphasis will be on the area of 'Sustainability in Design'.  These tasks are designed to prepare the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the required assessments.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT

There are two methods of assessment on the course, formal examinations and controlled assessment.

The controlled assessment (coursework) will consist of two projects: one focusing on designing and modelling; the other on making a product.  Both pieces of controlled assessment add up to approximately 60% of the final GCSE mark.

The formal examinations will take place at the end of each year, one in Year 10 focussing on sustainability in design; the other focussing on manufacturing in complaint materials.  Each exam is worth approximately 20% of the final GCSE mark.
