COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is concerned with designing and making activities delivered through textiles. The written exam paper will test the basics of textiles knowledge through fashion or furnishings and the coursework provides opportunities for focusing on either or both areas in order to produce realisations which are functional, aesthetically  pleasing and fun to create.

'Fashion' will include simple garments and interesting accessories. "Furnishings" are textiles products which enhance indoor and outdoor spaces and environments.

Controlled Assessment will be a single project within which pupils will be expected to carry out an extended, integrated design and make task which involves them in the production of a design folder and a realisation of their design. They will be required to consider industrial practices and the application of systems and control in the project. (45 hours on task).

RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

Focused tasks (e.g. construction in fabric, printing, manipulation of fabric, creation of products sustainability and using recycled materials, dyeing and surface decoration, etc) the single design and make activity is selected from a range of board set tasks.  These will be related to industrial practices and will enable a range of skills and processes to be developed.  Emphasis may be on the production  of the "one off" and proto type article or on mass production.
