All pupils study Design and Technology for one double lesson per week in Year 7 on a nine week rotation. In Year 8 pupils study two aspects of DT for six months each and the same in Year 9.
Projects are centered around experimenting with tools, materials and processes through both focussed practical tasks and design and make tasks.
Aspects of the Year 7 course include printing on fabrics and the design and manufacture of a batik cushion.
The focus for the Year 8 unit of work is hats and bags where pupils study laying out, cutting and the joining of textile materials.
In Year 9 pupils carry out a design and make task producing a hanging storage unit for their bedroom.
The Year 10 and 11 scheme is a full GCSE course where pupils follow the design process culminating in a design and make project which is realised in the form of a design folder and final product.
