Art and Design

|
The Key Stage 3 Art syllabus is based around a series of half termly themes where pupils work with a variety of painting, drawing, printing, mixed media and ceramics techniques. They are encouraged to develop both observational and imaginative skills, supporting their studies by a research of relevant artists and the use of sketchbooks for homework.
GCSE Art is a popular option choice where students continue to develop their skills, achieving a high level of creative and technical ability.

Music
 |
All pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 follow a course based on the National Curriculum requirements for music. Pupils may opt to continue to GCSE level. Pupils are involved in a wide range of practical activities, music composition and listening skills which are taught in a purpose built area well resourced with percussion, keyboards, a recording studio and 15 computers which use CV base software.
One hundred and fifty pupils learn an instrument at Kingshill. Tuition is provided by our team of specialists in the following areas: upper and lower strings, wood wind, brass, piano, drumming, guitar and singing. Pupils are encouraged to take part in ensemble groups and further music activities that take place after school. There are concerts at the end of each term.

Drama
 |
Drama is taught from years 7 to 11. GCSE Drama is a popular option choice. Drama is valuable to pupils of all abilities, not least because they develop improved communication, both through words and movement. It gives them an opportunity to succeed in human interaction and invention, allowing them to explore and come to a greater understanding of the way in which humans behave.
Theatre visits take place on a regular basis and visits from touring companies are arranged when possible. Each year we stage a large scale whole school production, which involves over 100 students.
