Aims

  • To stimulate pupils interest in History

  • To encourage pupils to enquire about the past and analyse key people and events

  • To recognise the cultural diversity of our country and the significance of the past

 

Course Description

 

Terms 1 and 2             What is History?

This is a course designed to build on basic historical skills. These skills will be developed throughout Key Stage 3.

The Roman Empire

Using the locality as historians

 

Terms 3 and 4             Medieval Realms (Part 1)

We shall be studying the political aspects of the period 1066 - 1500 e.g. the Norman Invasion, the Feudal System, the role of the Monarchs and changing

Terms 5 and 6             Medieval Realms (Part 2)

                                    We shall be studying the social and economic aspects of this period,

                                    In particular the effects of the Black Death and the Peasants' Revolt.

 

Activities

 

Pupils will undertake research, project work and use written and visual sources to answer historical enquiries. Information and Communication Technology is used where relevant.

 

Homework

This will be set once a week in rotation with Geography and should take approximately twenty minutes.

 

Assessment

 

This consists of a combination of continuous assessment and timed tasks. Homework may form part of an assessment.
