Aims/Objectives for the year:

To build upon work covered in Year 7 we look at Britain from 1500-1700 and deal with issues chronologically and thematically. To develop pupils' understanding of the influences of the past.
We also aim to raise awareness of other cultures by looking at the indigenous peoples of America. This ties in well with work covered in Geography.
Course Details:

Terms 1 and 2

Indigenous Peoples of North America:

A study of Native American peoples and their culture, the Black peoples of the USA, Past and Present.

Terms 3 and 4

The Making of the UK:

This course spans two terms and during the spring term we focus upon the  Social, Religious and Economic Changes 1500-1700

Terms 5 and 6   

The Making of the UK:

This term we study the Political changes 1500-1700 including the Civil War and Restoration of the Monarchy.

Range of Activities

Pupils will use a variety of resources such as textbooks, videos and ICT. Pupils also experience an active learning environment wherein discussion, enquiry and role play are in evidence.

Homework Requirements:

30 minutes per week in rotation with Geography.

Assessment

Pupils will be assessed on the Key Elements in History. Pupils will be expected to develop a variety of communication skills including essay writing.

Assessment will be continuous and also include timed tasks.

Homework may be part of an assessment.
