Aims/Objectives for the year:
1. To meet National Curriculum Requirements
2. To raise awareness of evidence for history locally and nationally.
3. To develop an overview of the history covered in Key Stage 3.
Course Details:
Terms 1 and 2 - Britain 1750-c.1900
Pupils will study the effects on people and places during the Industrial
Revolution.
Throughout this term we will concentrate upon the impact of the Industrial
Revolution, economically, politically and socially.
Terms 3 and 4 - Twentieth Century World.
This term pupils will study causes and consequences of the First World War.
As well as learning about the conditions experienced by soldiers at the Western
Front they will learn about the political, economic and social impact the war
had on British Society.
Terms 5 and 6 - Twentieth Century World.
Pupils will learn about the causes of the Second World War.
They will study in depth the impact the war had on the Home Front. They will
also study key turning points that led to the outcome of the Second World War as
well as global issues such as the Holocaust and the dropping of atomic bombs on
Japan. This will include an investigation into a post-war topic of the student's
choice.
Range of Activities
Pupils will have access to a wide range of resources including textbooks, videos
and ICT.
They will participate in a variety of activities including extended writing
pieces, debates and class discussions, empathy exercises, film reviews and
learning from guest speakers.
Homework Requirements: 40 minutes per week
Pupils will complete a combination of continual assessment and timed tasks.
Pupils will be expected to complete some assessment tasks for homework.
