Pupils follow “The Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Religious
Education”.
This syllabus seeks to extend the pupil’s knowledge and understanding
of religious beliefs, practices, and lifestyles. It encourages key skills and attitudes that
are fundamental to the study of religion.
Over the year the following topics will be studied (not necessarily in
this order):
The Nature of God
Hinduism
Rites of Passage
Buddhism
Pupils will be involved in a wide range of activities including: research, creative writing, debate and
discussion, watching videos and slides, reading, participating in group and
practical activities; (ie drama) drawing, tasting,
handling artefacts, project work etc.
The aim is to encourage an understanding of commitment and belief.
Homework will be set approximately once a fortnight. It may sometimes involve going to the library
to research a topic or learning new words/concepts.
Pupils will be assessed against the Attainment Statements of the Agreed
Syllabus. They will also be encouraged
to develop self assessment skills.
