To familiarise students with the computing environment at Kingshill School
To develop confidence and competence in computer usage through the teaching and implementation of the Key Stage 3 Strategy
To encourage an interest in computers and their applications
During the year pupils will become familiar with the computing environment at Kingshill School using software running on the Windows operating system platform. Students will be taught how to manage files and folders; they will make presentations using Power Point, incorporating pictures and sound; they will use spreadsheets for modeling; they will become familiar with the school e-mail system and Internet usage; they will be made aware of issues involving e-safety when using the Internet and responsible use; they will learn how to collect and analyse data; and, they will learn how to present data using graphical methods. The scheme of work delivered is largely based on the units of work created by the governments ICT Key Stage 3 Strategy.
By the mid-point of Year 7 students are becoming familiar enough with the computer system to begin to carry out cross-curricular work with confidence. Throughout the whole of KS3 students encounter and use ICT in all subject areas.
