LEARNING SUPPORT – YEAR 7
Teacher in charge – Mrs. F. Halsey
One lesson per
week is identified as a focus on Literacy Skills within the English course
experienced by everyone. The pupils
follow a carefully structured Progress Intervention course designed to boost
literacy skills. The course is modular
and involves a range of grammar and punctuation skills using extracts from
fiction and non-fiction texts.
Pupils are taught
how to write clearly and accurately using a variety of structures from
Persuasion to Description.
All year 7
entrants are tested for reading, spelling and cognitive ability and where a need
is identified, help is provided by the Learning Support Team. Small reading groups are run every day with
adult supervision. Reassessment of skills takes place in the Summer
term. Progress tests are also sat in the Summer Term.
