Aims/Objectives
for the Year:
To consolidate pupils’ skills in writing appropriate
to apply to other subject areas with confidence.
Support:
- Support is
provided in lessons with Teaching Assistants aiding subject teachers to
meet the needs of all the pupils in the class.
- At
lunchtimes help with homework is on offer in the Learning Support Base and
on two afternoons after school a homework club in held in the Base.
- The
Learning Support Base is stocked with computers, reference books, a
reading library and the subject text books as well as a range of games.
- Revision
notes available in a variety of formats are available upon request. These are to prepare pupils for SATs and then their GCSE examinations.
Course Details:
Pupils
follow a skills-based modular course consolidating their language and grammar
skills. A broad range
of writing techniques are studied.
There is also an emphasis on self checking their writing for
punctuation, spelling, does it answer the question and also make sense to the
reader.
Homework Requirements:
- Spellings
to revise the most common errors and the command words in questions.
- To
continue to extend personal reading skills.
- To use BBC
Bitesize website in English, Maths and Science
in preparation for SATs revision
National Curriculum Assessment Procedures:
All
year 9 pupils are tested for their reading and spelling skills at the end of
the Summer Term in preparations for GCSE work.
The
SATs examinations also take place in the Summer Term.
