New Picnic Area
Over the Easter break a new large canopy was erected to create an outdoor eating area. The pupils seem to like the new area and it has had a lot of use recently during the rainy days. We would like to express our gratitude to the Friends of Kingshill and the Powell’s Education Trust who both contributed towards financing the canopy.

School Day – September 2007
I hope all parents received
the letter sent by pupil post earlier this month explaining the timings of the
school day for September 2007. The new timings are listed below:
Eco School Matters
Sports Bottles
These water bottles are selling well in the warmer weather. Designed by a Kingshill School pupil, these bottles help us to reduce our plastic waste because they are re-useable and dishwasher proof! They are on sale at parents’ evenings and from reception in school or the Sports College office – only £1.00!!
Food Waste
There is still a lot of food being thrown away from packed lunches. Please check how much of your child’s food is being eaten.
Spring Litter Pick-up
A willing group of 15 youngsters organised by one of our Year 11’s carried out our annual ‘deep clean’ of the site – getting into the undergrowth around the field and car park areas etc.

Vision for Cirencester
Recently a group of students of all ages took part in an event organised by planning officers from the Cotswold District Council. Having been given a brief outline of how the planning process works and why the council is consulting with people about the future of the town, students were asked to consider its strengths and weaknesses at the moment. With the help of a large map of the town they then went on to suggest ideas for the future. Popular suggestions included a cinema, more shops, better provision for cycling, more pedestrian areas in the centre of town and tidying up untidy areas. The opportunity for students to give their views was certainly appreciated. “It was really interesting and good to feel that my ideas were being listened to,” said one student. CDC officer, Chris Vickery, said he was most impressed by the maturity and confidence of the youngsters who took part.
Feeding ourselves & keeping healthy in school
One of the Eco School themes is Healthy Eating and School Grounds. This has a strong link now with the Healthy Schools programme, part of which encourages students to grow food in the school grounds. We still consider packaging issues in the school canteen and healthy eating options. After a suggestion made by the Eco School committee many years ago, we have finally got some ‘trim trail’ equipment for students to use. Many thanks to Mr Hart & Ms Wilson for organising this.
