There are 2 biology, 2 physics and 2 chemistry modules, which are examined in pairs as multiple choice papers in November, March and June.  The centre assessed unit is carried out by the class teacher during the modules and assesses the pupil’s ability to work in an organised and safe manner whilst working practically in the laboratory.  The pupils also carry out a practical assessed task set by AQA and take a test based on the practical.    In year 11 they will have 12 lessons a fortnight. This course covers aspects of physics, chemistry and biology split into 6 units.  Pupils will be internally assessed using our own practice test papers throughout the year to allow us to monitor performance.  They are then examined formally by AQA with three papers in May/June.   RANGE OF ACTIVITIES Pupils are taught in mixed ability classes with differentiated resources to allow them to work and be examined at their appropriate level. They will be involved in experimental and investigative work aimed at developing practical and process skills.  In year 10 there are opportunities for the pupils to debate the implications of Science in Society.  They will be issued with textbooks as well as revision guides and workbooks for each GCSE.    HOW DOES THE SUBJECT HELP AS A QUALIFICATION FOR FUTURE COURSES? The course provides a sound scientific background in all the three key areas of science, biology, chemistry and physics.  It also provides enough science for those wishing to continue with related vocational courses at college.  However pupils wishing to take up A levels in any of the three science areas need to consider Triple Science as an option subject.

Text Box: COURSE DESCRIPTION   This course is taken in addition to the core science and allows pupils to achieve three separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the end of year 11.  This course is open to any pupil who is working at a level 6 or 7 in Science during year 9.  This course will be taught as complimentary modules to extend their core science over year 10 and year 11.    Some of the extension topics include microbiology, transportation of substances around the body, chemical analysis, acids and bases, light and sound and stars and space.  All the units are designed to extend the science beyond those covered in the Science A and Additional Science.  The work is taught in parallel with the core courses but as discrete units.    The work covered during triple science lessons will be examined formally by three AQA papers in June of Year 10 and in January and June of Year 11.   RANGE OF ACTIVITIES   As with the core science, pupils will be involved in experimental and investigative work aimed at developing practical and process skills. The pupils will be issued with textbooks as well as revision guides and workbooks for each GCSE.    HOW DOES THE SUBJECT HELP AS A QUALIFICATION FOR FUTURE COURSES?   This course allows the pupils to pursue an interest in each science subject separately.  This course is excellent for those pupils who wish to continue with any science subjects at AS and A level.
